The leadership of the Glenville communities gathered on Saturday, October 8th, for a celebration of the "grand opening" of the recently-renovated Glenville Community Center.  Carolyn Franz, of the Glenville Initiative Group, welcomed Jackson County Commissioners Mark Jones, Vicki Green and Boyce Dietz, Cashiers Area Chamber executive director Stephanie Edwards and other guests and shared an update on the local beautification and economic development efforts underway.

Community Center board members included Ralph Campbell, President, Robert Varkony, Vice President, Marvin Smith, Secretary, David Yoder, Treasurer and directors Jerry Stout, Lillian Zajac, Carlyn Ricter, Diane Wilcoxson, and Judy Warren.  Glenville Communities, Inc. was represented by Franz, Cample, and Board members Terry Beye and architect David Wallace.

The Cashiers Area Chamber's signature red balloons waved in the blustery wind while dignitaries symbolically cut a red ribbon to officially dedicate the building.  A "Welcome to Glenville" mural painted by Steve Daniels adorned the front wall while tribute pavers will be laid across the landscaping.  The building has a rich history from its days as a cabbage sorting facility, housing the fire department before adapting to a community meeting place and thrift store. Phase I is under construction now.  Funding for the project has come from individuals, a county grant and other donations.
