Thought you all would be interested … According to Cashiers Area Chamber sources, the massive clearing on 64 East is a 2.5 year DOT project adding passing lanes and removing the curves on about 2 miles of 64. The project consists of straightening the roadway alignment, providing standard-width travel lanes and shoulders, and adding a westbound climbing lane. The construction crew plans to keep one lane open at all times and to not detour traffic around the site. Prepare for delays. Average speed limit after project will be 45 after. See image below.
