Part of our work is ensuring the work done by others is supported, encouraged and profitable. We take this responsibility seriously, and hope that all our Members and the members of the Cashiers area community at large succeed in their work. The Chamber has also developed and/or supports a number of community initiatives and continues to look for new opportunities and ideas. Below are just a few examples of some of the initiatives we've either started or wholly support as good work that benefits the community as a whole:

Travel & Tourism

The Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce is contracted by the Jackson County Tourism & Development Authority to operate the county's Visitor Information Center at Cashiers.  The Chamber's executive director serves as an ex-officio member of the JCTDA board and works closely with its director on destination branding and tourism management initiatives.  With tourism as the area's number one industry, we work to promote the Cashiers Area destination brand and growing related businesses, while preserving the village character anhd appeal of a leisure experience in our mountain communities.

The Cashiers Planning Council

The Cashiers Planning Council is a volunteer board of local residents appointed by the County Commission to review and make recommendations on the Cashiers Commercial Area Land Development Ordinance and ensure measured growth.  With the staff support of the county's Planning Department, the board holds monthly meetings to address issues of jurisdiction relating to development.

The Mountain Landscapes Initiative

The Mountain Landscapes Initiative (MLI) was a long-range project by The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina to help citizens and communities in the 18 counties it serves plan for growth. The Foundation partnered with the Southwestern Commission, the council of governments organization serving NC’s seven westernmost counties, to produce a “Toolbox” of best practices for planning and development in the mountain region. From its efforts, the Cashiers Village Council was created which identified strategic community needs which the Chamber continues to address (including infrastructure (water & sewer), workforce housing, street beautification, transportation improvements).

The Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce represents the cooperative involvement of the communities in and around the greater Cashiers area of Western North Carolina. Distinct in geography, character and identity, these communities are the four cornerstones of life for those who live, work or visit the area.

About the Chamber

The Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1982 as a means of bringing the businesses of Cashiers, NC and surrounding mountain communities of Glenville, Lake Toxaway and Sapphire together for the purpose of promoting the area and extending what had traditionally been a seasonal business environment.

The Chamber's Core Purpose is to "Provide extraordinary Leadership in the Cashiers Area as an Advocate for business, Information Source for the community, and Conduit for building destination awareness and responsible growth." We embrace Core Values of Energy & Enthusiasm, Inclusivity, Integrity, Leadership, Hospitality, Preservation of Culture and Commitment to Membership.  By promoting Chamber businesses and leading economic development initiatives throughout the year, the Chamber works to ensure commercial prosperity and high quality of life in our mountain communities.

Every year, the Chamber commits to well-defined strategic initiatives -- including workforce development, housing, pedestrian mobility and safety, broadband connectivity and more -- which align with its Purpose and Values.

We encourage you to learn more about the work we do. If you're an area or regional business or non-profit organization, we invite you to join us as General or Non-profit members. If you are simply interested in supporting the efforts of the Chamber, you and your family may join as Associate members, or contact us to sign up for our monthly email newsletters!
