~ From the family of Thomas Taulbee

With profound shock and sadness, we must announce the passing of our brother, uncle, and brother-in-law Thomas Taulbee.

Thomas was born on May 24, 1963, in Wilmington, Delaware. He grew up in Coral Gables, Florida, and graduated from the University of Miami. Thomas moved to the Cashiers area in 2013.

On his daily leisurely stroll with his precious pup Chambers Sunday morning, Thomas left us here on earth as his spirit transitioned into the afterlife.

Thomas joined our intimate Village community in this magnificent valley of glorious natural tranquility and made Cashiers his new forever home. Our tiny Hamlet was so very blessed by his presence, his joy, his positivity, his inclusion, his support, his love, and his sincere, generous, and giving soul.

As a lover of streams, rivers, and the outdoors, Thomas was part of our avid fly-fishing culture across the plateau. His patience, diligence, and deft roll cast proved formidable, with the experience of fellowship within his trout gang among his most cherished times.

As a passionate and accomplished yoga practitioner and instructor, Thomas was able to present his teachings and guidance in the beautiful and serene studio at Cashiers Valley Fusion Yoga and Wellness. His Saturday morning classes were booked far in advance, and he left an indelible imprint on each student he taught.

However, Thomas's most significant impact on our community was his work with the Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce and his chair position with the Jackson County Planning Commission. To say a community could be propped on a person's shoulders would apply to Thomas. To say a community could have unending and unconditional support and promotion in such a dedicated way would be what Thomas gave us. If a person could be such a hub that connected the spokes of a community, that would be Thomas. If a person could be such a catalyst for unity and for the foundation of growth, that would be Thomas.

Thomas was living his best life when he died. He had a unique personal relationship with everyone he touched, helped us all to be our best, and helped us live our own best lives. There is a void in our hearts and our Village right now. We will grieve, and then we will reflect, and then we will celebrate.

Thomas' Celebration of Life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 29th in Lewis Hall at The Village Green. In lieu of flowers, the family will share their charity of choice at the Celebration of Life on Thursday.

Thomas was loved and admired by so many.

May his soul rest in the light.
