At Home in the Greater Cashiers Area
Located in southern Jackson County in Western North Carolina, the greater Cashiers area has long been a popular area for visitors from across the country because of it pristine and unspoiled natural beauty. Filmmakers throughout the years have flocked here for the same reason. But the greater Cashiers (pronounced “Cash-ers”) area is more than just a great place to visit. Ask any of the residents who call Cashiers, Glenville, Lake Toxaway or Sapphire home, and they’ll tell you – living here isn’t like living anywhere else.
A More Affordable Way of Life
The areas represented by the Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce straddle two counties, with Lake Toxaway and Sapphire located in Transylvania County, while Cashiers and Glenville are in Jackson County. Both rank consistently lower than the national average on the cost of living index, with both counties coming in with an index count of 85 in 2011 (national average is 100.)
A More Personal Way of Life
For those whose stays with us extend beyond vacation, life in our communities is the perfect combination of small town coziness and periodic moments that move at a slightly faster pace. While the populations of both counties aren’t tiny – Transylvania: 30,203; Jackson: 36,891 – our neck of the woods can claim a significantly small portion of those numbers. Granted, you may never know it if you’ve only ever visited in summer, when the vacation home owners and part-time residents join us and our numbers swell to two and three times the usual.
