Happy Earth Day! We, along with the Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center recently provided financial support to have trash cleaned up off the roadways of US Hwy 64 between Cashiers and Highlands. A big show of support and thank you to David Young and his team for their hard work in this regard on two separate dates in the month of April to get the job done. Happy Earth Day!

Clean up days took place early on Sunday April 7 and again on Sunday, April 21 just before Earth Day. 50 total bags of trash along US Hwy. 64 (1/2 ton) were collected on April 7th from 2.5 difficult miles from the "Big View"/ Macon/Jackson County line towards Cashiers. An additional 44 bags of trash (6/10 of a ton) were picked up on Sunday April 21. Each cleaning was considered a "deep clean" both above and below the guard railings on each side of the road.

A third cleanup day has already been scheduled.

A big thank you to Jackson County Waste Management for support in this regard as all trash was unloaded at their SRC on Wahalla Road in Cashiers. Their year round services are great support to Jackson County residents.

Thank you also to NCDOT who provide trash bags dedicated to roadway cleanup of both trash and recyclable materials.
