Members of the inaugural Leadership Cashiers Class recently met with Jackson County officials to learn about local government issues that impact the region’s economy and community development.

Commission Chairman Brian McMahan presented a historical introduction and the elected board’s role and responsibilities.  County Manager Don Adams, Planning Director Michael Poston and Parks and Recreation Director Rusty Ellis discussed governance, budget and departmental activities with an emphasis on the Cashiers Area.

Sheriff Chip Hall and his officers explained safety and law enforcement challenges, demonstrated K-9 apprehension techniques (McMahan served as the suspect), and provided the group with a ride in the armored vehicle to their next stop at the Jackson County Courthouse Library where the program continued.

Eric T. Moody CPA PA provided financial sponsorship support for the session. Leadership Cashiers is a community engagement initiative of the Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce designed to develop informed, engaged and dynamic community leadership.  For more information, visit www.leadershipcashiers.org
