With a history of more than two decades, the 26th Annual Tour de Cashiers Mountain Cycling Experience will be held on Saturday September 15, 2018 across the sky-high, scenic mountain byways of western North Carolina. This popular cycling event has shifted its traditional spring schedule to the fall to accommodate an expanded activities schedule and take advantage of autumn weather conditions. Added activities include 5K run, after-party for all participants and their families, and partnership with Baldaroo Music Festival benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau.
Under the direction of Tony Hammett, USAT Certified Race Director and Coach of Peak Racing Events, Atlanta, Georgia, the event is expected to attract participants from across the southeast, many returning every year to ride the prestigious race.
“This is a beautiful area and we are thrilled to help grow the events for both the participants and Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce. We look forward to this exciting partnership,” said Hammett.
Tour de Cashiers cyclists will follow one of three routes of up to 100 miles across Jackson, Macon and Transylvania Counties. They will ride steep climbs and fast descents at 3,500 feet plus above sea level with more than 10,500 feet of elevation changes and cross through the mountain communities of Cashiers, Lake Toxaway, Sapphire, Glenville, Cullowhee, Highlands and more.
Proceeds from the Tour support local community and economic development through the Cashiers Area Chamber. “We’re delighted to partner with veteran producer Peak Racing Events who will lead the Tour into an exciting expansion phase,” said Stephanie Edwards on behalf of community host Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce.

Have you seen them? In May, the Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce along with Jackson County Tourism Development Authority purchased a total of seven new brochure displays for the Cashiers area. The new displays, located at the Cashiers Farmers Market, Buck's Coffee Café, Ingles Supermarket, The Village Green, Cashiers BP Gas Station, Cashiers Village Shops and Signal Ridge Marina in Glenville help fulfill the Chamber's mission as an Advocate for business, Information source for the community and conduit for building destination awareness and responsible growth in Cashiers, North Carolina and surrounding mountain communities. An eighth display resides at the Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center on the covered front porch for 24-hour access to area information.
In addition to distributing guides and maps on a regular basis to area accommodations, communities & clubs, Cashiers, NC Post Office, Albert Carlton Community Library and others, chamber staff are responsible for restocking each new display on a weekly basis. The three-tiered displays are weatherproof and house visitor and resident information on shopping, dining, waterfall and trail maps, business directory and more. All seven displays include physical address, website and phone number of the Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center for additional information.
